![]() |
This issue is themed "Healing Through Art." It includes articles that explore how quilting can soothe the soul, promote personal growth or uplift others. Jane Dunnewold is an artist beyond compare. She describes the creation of her complex wholecloth quilt, “The Earth Heals Herself,” and the contemplative journey she took as it evolved - and she shares how you, too, can do the same. Liz Kettle is also an artist on a journey, that involves slowing down, enjoying the process and working on small, measurable works of hand stitch. Liz has committed to a daily stitch meditation practice, which she has explored for 10 years. Rebecca Cartwright has been interacting with a degenerative muscle disease since 2010 that has led her to adapt her quilting processes, adopt new ones, and constantly challenge herself to continue quilting in a manner that suits and fulfills her. This issue is not limited to the healing aspect of art but also shares other projects and thoughtful articles as well. Mel Beach encourages us to explore creative reuse centres, which are treasure troves of resources for creative minds and good for the planet. Lyn Brown shares her charming technique to make Pillows Beads using small squares of folded fabric, some hand stitching and beads to create jewellery and embellishments. Teresa Duryea Wong introduces us to Argentinean quilter Cecelia Koppmann, who used the challenge of cancer treatment to infuse her work with meaning and optimism.
