CLEARANCE SALE - "Arimatsu Narumi Shibori" DVD with Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada (4 left)
Yoshiko is the President of the Worldwide Shibori Network. This DVD celebrates 400 years of Shibori.
In 1608 the Village of Arimatsu was established by the first Shogun or Emperor of Japan as the 42nd rest station along the Tokaido from Edo, the ancient capital of Japan, to Osaka.
Eight families settled in the town and took up textile work as a means of making a living. Their peasant work became very famous amongst commoners and nobility -- their ability to create designs, patterns, and textures in cloth simply by applying knotting, clamping, binding, stitching and other methods produced fabrics for Silk Kimonos and airy cotton summer Yukatas.
The DVD was released to commemorate and celebrate the continued tradition of Shibori in Nagoya for these past 400 years. The collective of 30 artisans in Arimatsu allowed Studio Galli this intimate visit to their homes and studios to see them work in the native environments, share their methods, and inspire a new generation of Shibori Artists the world over.
