Fabric Dyes

H Dupont Alter Ego Dyes for Plant Fibres - H Dupont Alter Ego Dyes for plant fibres NEW - ideal for double-dyeing mixed fibres

H Dupont Alter Ego Dyes for plant fibres NEW - ideal for double-dyeing mixed fibres Alter Ego colours are intense shades for vegetable fibres such as cotton, linen, viscose, etc.

They can be used for painting or simple dyeing of vegetable fibres. They were formulated for double-dyeing along with H Dupont Classique steam-fix dyes, when the fabric is part vegetable-based and part protein-based, such as viscose/silk devore velvet.

How to use Alter Ego dyes:

To paint with Alter Ego, prepare a mixture of: 5 parts colour with 1 part steaming medium. Apply your mixture with a brush or spray it. Leave to dry then fix by steaming.

How to realize a simple dyeing with Alter Ego?

Mix: For 1 L of water (10-20 g of tissue), allow 15 ml of Alter Ego colour and 10 ml of coarse salt.

In a pot of warm water, add the colours and coarse salt. Mix well.

Rinse the fabric, wring out and immerse it still wet in the mixture. On a low heat, stir for 5 minutes then increase to boil. Continue stirring throughout the dyeing. Keep the bath boiling for 5 minutes. Then let stand out of the fire for 10 minutes. Rinse and wash with soap and water. Let dry before fixing.

To double-dye with Alter Ego:

For 1 litre of water (25-35g of fabric), allow 10ml of Alter Ego, 5ml of H Dupont Classique dye, 6 drops of fixative, 3 of vinegar and 5ml of coarse salt.

Pour warm water into a saucepan. Add your dyes and mixatives. Rinse the fabric, wring it out and immerse it still wet in the mixture.

Stir over the heat for 5 minutes. Heat to boiling and let it boil for 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Rinse the fabric with water and then wash with warm water and soap. It is possible that one of the darker colours can take over and affect, even very slightly, the lighter colour. Let it dry before setting in the microwave (2x2 minutes) or in a steamer.
